The health center in the Frankenwald,  

a modern Spa town with centuries of tradition

Bad = German for Bath.

Official title given to a town with natural occurring Mineral  wells or Hot Springs and Health spas.

Oberfranken (Upper Franconia)

Bavaria, Germany

Steben is situated in the most northern part of Bavaria in a mid-altitude  mountain range called the Frankenwald

History:

1444 AD

First official mention of a mineral water well with “health attributes”

1690

Publication of the first book by Dr. Gottfried Stein about the medicinal benefits of the mineral water in Steben

1729

The second Thermal well is mentioned

1787

Steben lists 38 accommodations for Spa guests

1788

The first state owned Resort hotel  was build but not opened as it did not have enough stables for the guests

1810

Steben becomes part of Bavaria

1827

Torf moor as a natural  healing substance is introduced by Dr. Ludwig Kunstmann

1832  

The Thermal wells are sold to the state of Bavaria and becomes by decree of King Ludwig the I  a  “Royal Bavarian State Health Spa”

Since then the Health Spa of Bad Steben achieved an excellent  reputation  and a loyal following of it’s spa guests.
